Did Dr Disrespect’s Midnight Society steal art from other games?

Midnight Society

There has been a lot of hype around Herschel “Dr Disrespect” Beahm’s new Midnight Society game studio, but as more information is revealed there has been drama to go along with it.

Dr Disrespect recently responded to the controversies surrounding his decision to introduce Founders Pass NFTs, which are non-fungible tokens that are meant to provide benefits and early access to fans who want to get more involved with Midnight Society.

“Listen, in regards to NFTs, you don’t have to have NFTs to play the game. It doesn’t change your experience of the game once it releases and it will continue to be free-to-play,” Dr Disrepect said.

Now, it seems the gaming community has found another issue with the initial Midnight Society website and information.

Dr Disrespect’s Midnight Society may have stolen art from Cyberpunk 2077

The gaming community has been buzzing after a tweet revealed some questionable similarities between Midnight Society’s website and imagery taken from the Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer. A fan showed the images side to side on Twitter, causing some uproar about Midnight Society potentially using stolen art from Cyberpunk 2077.

Many people felt the art theft was ironic since NFTs are allegedly meant save artwork as unique works, according to their proponents. Others wondered if this was done on purpose and that a collaboration was in store. As the tweet continued to explode all over the internet, Midnight Society’s studio head Robert Bowling responded to the accusations.

According to Bowling, the image was used “by accident” by a web engineer that uploaded the wrong image during an optimization process.

“He will be properly shamed,” Bowling added.

The explanation was met with skepticism from some gamers. The idea of an image from an unrelated game trailer having been accidentally substituted in for an original image seemed odd.

Others offered that it could have been a “placeholder image,” but some wondered why the team would use a real image from an existing game as a placeholder rather than something more plain.

Either way, fans are now joking that Dr Disrespect has earned his nick-name “Two-Time” by having “back-to-back lawsuits” since this controversy followed the conclusion of the Doc’s legal struggles with Twitch.
