Will The Sims 5 be free-to-play?
The Sims 5 is confirmed, but not much is known about the game, including what new innovations are on the way for Sims fans and the price and release date. Will The Sims 5 be free to play?
EA has been feverishly working on The Sims 5, including posting tons of job listings to put together a team focused on the expansive simulation game. Some of the job listings have given us insight into The Sims 5 that has otherwise been kept hidden, including the game’s price.
How much will The Sims 5 be?
In a since-deleted job listing on the EA job portal for a head of marketplace and monetization, it was stated that this person would “own Project Rene‘s in-game marketplace of content and UGC (free and paid).” It also stated that this position would “own pricing of all content in this free-to-enter game.”
From this description, it seems quite likely that The Sims 5 will be free. But while the base game will be free-to-play, you can expect a lot of DLC expansions and packs that will cost money, similar to The Sims 4 right now. There will also allegedly be user-generated content (UGC) that will cost money, meaning modders will likely be paid for their creations.
This isn’t all too surprising since The Sims 4 is also free. In 2022, it was announced that the base game would be free nine years after its initial release.
How much is The Sims 5 DLC?
The price of The Sims 5’s future expansion packs are currently unknown.
The expansion packs for The Sims 4 are $39.99. This is pretty pricey for DLC, but that’s because the expansion packs in The Sims 4 come with tons of new gameplay opportunities and cosmetics that can completely alter how you play the game.
For example, the upcoming Horse Ranch Expansion Pack will bring horses and other barn animals to The Sims 4, allowing you to ride them, enter competitions, and even breed horses to get specific skills and traits. If you want to bring your Sims to the wild west, this DLC would be worth purchasing.
