Most gamers can’t think of FaZe Clan without thinking of Ricky “FaZe Banks” Banks. FaZe Banks was born in Massachusetts in the fall of 1991. Ever since he was young, FaZe Banks has been obsessed with video games. Before FaZe Clan, Banks was the leader of a Call of Duty team known as SoaR. He started streaming Call of Duty and other games on YouTube, eventually becoming big on social media.

How did FaZe Banks get involved with FaZe Clan?

FaZe Banks started his career as a pro Call of Duty player in 2013. He soon joined a gaming squad known as FaZe Clan, but just competing for FaZe wasn’t enough for Banks. He began working his way up, expanding the organization’s social media presence and adding more teams in different games, including Overwatch, Fortnite, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Today, FaZe Banks no longer competes and is instead a content creator and FaZe Clan’s COO. He works both up front and behind the scenes to further FaZe Clan’s brand profile.

How did FaZe Banks become famous?

FaZe Banks was becoming quite popular during his early years with FaZe Clan thanks to his competitive play and some related drama. But FaZe Banks started to really become a household name in the gaming community in 2017 when he started dating Alissa Violet, Jake Paul’s ex-girlfriend. This started a lot of drama between FaZe Banks and Jake Paul that had some fans in the streaming community hooked.

Paul and Violet had broken up earlier in 2017, and FaZe Banks started dating her just months later. At the time, Alissa Violet accused Paul of being physically and verbally abusive. Paul retaliated in the summer of 2017 by claiming that FaZe Banks assaulted Paul’s assistant, something FaZe Banks denied.

Riding the high of the Paul drama, FaZe Banks founded CloutGang, a team of content creators that would collaborate and live together in Los Angeles. This included other controversial personalities such as RiceGum.

How did FaZe Banks become rich?

These days, FaZe Banks is known for flexing his wealth. He is allegedly worth around $13 million. But did this all come from his work with FaZe Clan? Not really.

FaZe Banks has been under fire multiple times for his involvement in crypto and NFT companies. Often times, his endeavors have seen potentially illegal and have included offshore gambling. He also seemed to be involved with the SaveTheKids scandal at FaZe Clan, where some prominent members of the organization encouraged fans to invest in a pump-and-dump scam.

Recently, FaZe Banks has been heavily involved with CryptoPunk NFTs. His boasting on social media seemed like yet another scam designed to get his followers to purchase the NFTs. He called the investment “life-changing.”

When called out for hyping up another NFT after the SaveTheKids fiasco, FaZe Banks was defensive.

“I can create enough hype to inflate the value of a product that trades 50 million dollars a day? When the floor is $150,000? Why isn’t FaZe Clan selling $50 m’a a day in Merch then,” FaZe Banks said.

While some fans reassured FaZe Banks that “some people don’t want to see him win,” FaZe Banks has consistently been seen as a bit of a controversial figure in the gaming and esports communities, and his latest business endeavors indicate that will continue to be the case.
