The iconic characters are well known even beyond the anime fandom. Now, Destin Daniel Cretton (co-writer and director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is looking to bring Naruto to the big screen.

The live action adaptation of Naruto has no release date yet. It’s been in development with Lionsgate since 2015. Insiders have stated that the team is making “significant leaps” towards getting onto the big screen.

Kishimoto explained that he has enjoyed Cretton’s other films and feels they focus on “dramas about people,” making him feel it was a good fit. On top of that, Kishimoto explained that Cretton is “open-minded” and has been embracing input, meaning the adaptation will hopefully be pretty true to Naruto’s original story and style.

For now, however, the plot has not been revealed.
