Evan “Cented” Barron is out of FaZe Clan following his use of a racial epithet.
On July 3, a clip of a stream that included Cented made the rounds with an individual using a racial epithet. The individual was identified as Cented, and in short order FaZe Clan issued a response.
The organization announced that Cented was removed from the team, effective immediately. Cented corroborated this but stated the two sides “mutually parted ways,” though FaZe suggested that it had released him without such cooperation.
Cented joined FaZe Clan in March 2021 after an extended stretch with Team Liquid. He was among FaZe’s top active professional Fortnite players, posting a number of strong placements in Fortnite Champion Series events in the North America region.
The swift release of Cented stands in contrast to the team’s handling of Daniel “Dubs” Walsh. In 2020 Dubs used the same racial epithet on-stream but was kept on the team, only being fined and ordered to participate in sensitivity training.
Who is Cented and what happened to him?
Cented is a professional Fortnite player who was released from FaZe Clan after his use of racist language.
His career in the game dates back to competitive Fortnite’s formative years in 2018. He has over $300,000 in career prize pool winnings and has played for multiple top organizations.
Following his release from FaZe, Cented released a statement on Twitter regarding the situation and apologized for his actions.
“I am sorry. Not sorry I was exposed, but sorry because I should’ve known better. I can’t hide behind my age or cluelessness for leaving a word like that in my vocabulary. It shouldn’t be in my vocabulary at all. As an adult, I should know better,” Cented said.
He added that he used the racist language for “shock factor” and stated that his use of such words was a result of “willful ignorance.” Now without a team or sponsor, it is unknown whether Cented plans to continue playing Fortnite or if he will step away from playing and streaming for the time being. It’s also possible that Cented could face penalties from Fortnite publisher Epic Games that could keep him out of official competitions.
