Despite the rumors that are circulating on social media, The Queen’s Gambit season 2 is not happening.

Earlier this month, a post from what looked like a Netflix official page confirmed the second season of The Queen’s Gambit. The information was then posted across different Facebook pages where hundreds of thousands of users liked and shared it. Unfortunately for the fans, there won’t be a The Queen’s Gambit season 2.

The Queen’s Gambit follows the story of chess prodigy Beth Harmon. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Walter Tevis. Throughout the story, we meet Beth Harmon at different stages of her life into adulthood.

Beth rises to the top of the chess world, but her personal life is in shambles. Beth struggles with drug abuse and grief after the loss of her mother. Anya Taylor-Joy played the title character, earning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her performance.

The show came out in 2020, at a time when the majority of countries were enforcing a strict lockdown. The Queen’s Gambit became an instant success, but one that will not continue for a second season.

Why is there no Queen’s Gambit 2?

The creator of The Queen’s Gambit made it clear there won’t be any more seasons coming out in the future.

“I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry — let me put it differently — I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told,” said Emmy-winning director and Executive Producer Scott Frank in an interview with Deadline back in 2021.

One important factor to consider is the source material. The Queen’s Gambit is based on a novel of the same name. The TV show covers everything in the book, so there isn’t any more material for Frank to cover.
