Respawn Entertainment CEO discusses Apex Legends and future games

Respawn Entertainment’s CEO Vince Zampella admits that Apex Legends grew a little too fast for his company to keep up with.

In a candid interview with Game Informer, Zampella discussed Apex Legends success and what it means for the future of Titanfall.

“Apex took off beyond our wildest imagination. It’s a good problem to have, but we’re struggling to keep up with demand. With servicing that many millions of players, it’s been a busy first half of the year,” Zampella said.

The sudden growth of Apex Legends has led to many issues including game breaking bugs and excessive hackers. While this is common for a free-to-play game of its size, Apex fans are most concerned with the lack of response from the developers when an issue is brought up.

Serious issues with audio have gone for months without anything more than a “we’ll look into that” statement on Reddit.

That has led many players to wonder if the game’s many bugs will be addressed in Season 2. New weapons and legends have been announced, but not much has been said about the repetitive issues fans keep running into all over the map.

Either way, Apex Legend’s immediate success has kept Respawn developers busy, especially with Season 2 coming out.

“The success of Apex led us to focus our resources on supporting that game. That’s pushed Titanfall a bit further,” Zampella said.

This is hearbreaking news for many gamers, who have been waiting for Titanfall updates.

When asked if there is anything more Zampella can say about the state of a new Titan title, the tight-lipped CEO simply laughed and said, “Next!”

Despite Apex Legend’s popularity, Zampella is a Star Wars fan at heart, and he was quite open about Respawn’s newest announcement: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

The upcoming single-player action adventure title is set in the Star Wars universe shortly after Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The game was announced at last year’s E3 and will be out in November 2019.

“We went to a Star Wars celebration and unveiled the story trailer for the game. It was fantastic to b eon stage, thousands of fans in the audience. Hearing the cheering. It was super emotional for me. Star Wars is something so core to my childhood and who I am today. It was really fun to be a part of it,” Zampella said.
