Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys has decided to call out sexist behavior after dealing with an abundance of backlash through the early days of 2022.

It’s only been a couple of short weeks in the new year, but Pokimane has already encountered some difficulty in 2022. She canceled a stream on January 12 after being harassed by JiDion’s fanbase, leading other big content creators to speak up against misogyny, including Felix “xQc” Lengyel. He questioned why Pokimane was getting harassed for being a woman, saying people shouldn’t be toxic to anyone regardless of gender.

Matthew “Mizkif” Rinaudo noted that standing up for Pokimane shouldn’t be considered “simping” for her. This negative label has presumably led some to remain silent about the mistreatment of Pokimane by some groups and individuals.

Pokimane calls out sexism against female streamers

Pokimane decided to finally discuss what she has experienced during a January 15 stream. She said that female streamers often have their “attractiveness” held against them. They are sometimes told that their viewers only like the way they look and want to sleep with them, which Pokimane attributes to sexism.

“For starters, that’s rude and gross. Nobody asked,” Pokimane said.

Pokimane added that even if a female streamer is attractive, what’s the problem?

“What’s wrong with finding someone hot?” Pokimane questioned.

Pokimane explained that many famous male actors have female fans who find them attractive. Despite this, few make a big deal about it or refer to these fans as “simps.” Even if someone is attractive, Pokimane said, that doesn’t mean they aren’t also credible and talented.

“Why are you mad? Since when is being hot a bad thing? It’s so odd,” Pokimane said.

Pokimane has often been called out for having an “army of simps” that only watch her because they are hoping to date her or otherwise garner her attention. Fans are often curious about her dating life.

But Pokimane has also faced backlash for appearing on stream without makeup. With so much focus on her appearance, Pokimane has clearly become annoyed. Pokimane’s Twitter is currently private, with her name changed to “incel slayer.”
