Imane “Pokimane” Anys has responded to haters that lashed out at her for a recent tweet about her parents’ retirement.

Last night, Pokimane proudly announced that she had paid for her parents’ retirement, something that she felt very strongly about. She added in a follow-up tweet that she always felt “indebted” to her parents since they are immigrants and “nothing makes me happier than repaying them for their sacrifices.”

The tweet led to an immense amount of backlash, however, with many people questioning why she felt the need to share it with others.

Pokimane faces backlash over paying for parents’ retirement tweet

While Pokimane’s announcement was meant to be a wholesome and uplifting one, many in the streaming community weren’t too pleased with her tweet.

Some questioned what being an immigrant had to do with paying for their retirement while others simply felt she was sharing a good deed for clout. Some compared her tweet to when influencers tell people they gave money to a homeless person. Still others wondered why Pokimane didn’t pay for her parents’ retirement earlier.

After facing waves of backlash for her tweet, Pokimane decided to respond to the haters on her personal Twitter account.

“So many ignorant comments so I’mma do a lil’ educating here. I was born in Morocco, a third world country, and my amazing parents immigrated to Canada when I was four. I grew up being painfully aware of how much they missed their parents, siblings, friends, back in Morocco,” Pokimane explained.

Despite the sacrifices they made, Pokimane said that her parents always seemed happy and did everything they could to help Pokimane and her brother pursue their dreams. Growing up in Canada allowed Pokimane to become a content creator, she added.

A lot of people came to Pokimane’s aid, condemning people for judging the streamer without understanding what it’s like to have immigrant parents. Others said that Pokimane is allowed to feel happy and proud of her accomplishments, noting that they also hoped they could help their parents out in the future.

How much is Pokimane’s net worth?

Pokimane’s net worth is said to be between $1 million and $3 million according to multiple sources. A few list it as high as $6 million.

A lot of Pokimane’s money comes from Twitch subscriptions, ad revenue, partnerships, and brand deals. Pokimane also makes money from her own businesses and investments, including RTS, a talent management service for streamers.
