The new Fortnite season, Fortnite MEGA, has arrived, and the Kinetic Blade katana is changing the landscape of the game. Here’s how to destroy your enemies using it.

The Kinetic Blade katana is a wildly powerful new item added to Fortnite in Chapter 4 Season 2. The Kinetic Blade is a melee weapon with two modes of attack, the Knockback Slash and the Dash Attack. Just like the Shockwave Hammer defined how the game was played in Chapter 4 Season 1, this new sword seems to be on track to be just as influential. Here’s how to best use the new melee weapon in Fortnite.

How to best use the Kinetic Blade in Fortnite

Fortnite’s latest melee weapon has two modes, the Knockback Slash and the Dash Attack. Understanding each of these modes is crucial to optimizing your usage of the weapon.

  • Knockback Slash: The primary attack for the weapon, this is a series of two slashes in front of you with each carrying you forward slightly. The second attack covers more horizontal distance than the first, allowing you to chase down fleeing opponents.
  • Dash Attack: The Dash Attack is a charged dash that lifts your character into the air, holding them temporarily aloft and stopping any falling. After a quick charge, you blitz forwards, dealing damage to enemies and obstacles around you. Any enemies struck by this attack are knocked upwards and back, locking them in place temporarily. The Dash Attack uses one charge of the katana per use, and one use recharges every 9 seconds.

The Dash Attack is a powerful mobility tool that also allows you to cover distance both horizontally and vertically, and it recharges quickly. Use the Dash Attack as a way to cover ground and reposition when not actively trying to close the gap with opponents. The Dash Attack’s knock-up guarantees both hits from the Knockback Slash, so use them consecutively to optimize damage. Be careful about opponents with short-range weapons like shotguns and submachine guns shooting you during the knockback. Rapidly approaching can end up doing more damage to you than them.

Treat the Kinetic Blade as more of a mobility item than a primary weapon, but be willing to pull it out to take the fight to enemies when the opportunity arises. That’s how to dominate with the new katana in Fortnite, so get out there and engage in flashy duels to your heart’s content.
