Gen.G is the 2023 LCK Spring Champion after pulling off a major upset against T1.

Gen.G completed a 3-1 victory over T1 in the LCK final, securing back-to-back titles. Gen.G has now secured a spot at the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational Bracket Stage. T1 will also be attending the event and starting on the Play-In Stage.

Gen.G has defied the expectations in the LCK Spring playoffs. After the departure of iconic ADC Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, the team needed to rebuild its identity. The team promoted rookie Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, who rose up to the challenge.

The Spring champion finished the regular season in second place and started playoffs in the second round. Gen.G’s first opponent was Hanwha Life Esports. After the victory, Gen.G faced T1 for the first time, where T1 got a 3-1 victory.

Gen.G fell to the loser’s bracket to play KT Rolster, where it took the win to advance to the finals. Despite not defeating either T1 or KT Rolster in the regular season, Gen.G got the job done when it mattered the most.

The star of the series was top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, who dominated in lane and was the key player in the team fights. The Gen.G Spring title is the second in the team’s history.

T1 disappoints in the LCK Spring finals

Fans were disappointed by T1’s performance in the finals. The team has been consistently dominating the LCK and, somehow, lost all steam when it came to finals.

There isn’t a single reason for T1’s crumble at finals. The team drafted compositions they knew how to execute and made the smart plays they usually do. Only this time, none of it clicked for the 10-time LCK champion, and Gen.G was simply the better team.

The two squads now have their eyes set up in London, where MSI 2023 is taking place. Other teams qualified for the event include Golden Guardians, Cloud9, and G2 Esports
