FunPlus Phoenix to enter Flashpoint league with Heroic roster
FunPlus Phoenix to enter Flashpoint league with Heroic roster
The upcoming Flashpoint league has been accumulating a lot of hype in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive community. The organization-owned league has also been getting a lot of attention from pros CSGO teams. Now it seems to have drawn in FunPlus Phoenix.
FPX is a Chinese organization that have mostly made a name for themselves in the League of Legends scene. Against all odds, they
became the Worlds champions
last year, solidifying them as a top organization in the LoL community.
Now, FPX is hoping to have a similar rise to the top in CSGO. A report by
neL
states that FPX has bought a slot in Flashpoint. The organization also reportedly bought Heroic’s CSGO team, which would be their first expansion outside of League of Legends.
According to HLTV’s standings, Heroic is the 14th-best CSGO team in the world. In 2019, Heroic had three players leave, but they were replaced by respected Danish veterans Casper “cadiaN” Moller and Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer.
The Danish team played in multiple qualifiers at the beginning of 2020. They managed to qualify for DreamHack Open Leipzig, but didn’t qualify for DreamHack Open Anaheim or the Rio Major to be hosted by ESL.
Despite those drawbacks, the Heroic roster is looking strong going into the Flashpoint league’s inaugural season. They could be considered one of the most capable teams early in the competition, though there are still two other available spots in Flashpoint. It’s currently being reported that Havu and Chaos will be taking those final two places before Flashpoint kicks off on March 13.
Heroic was originally set to play in the newly franchised ESL Pro League. Season 11 starts on March 16. Now out of a CSGO squad, Heroic won’t be participating, leaving ESL just one week to find a team to replace them.
The expected FunPlus Phoenix roster is as follows:
- Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer Casper “cadiaN”Møller Patrick “es3tag” Hansen Martin “stavn” Lund Johannes “b0RUP” Borup
