Fortnite’s volcano has finally erupted, and the massive in-game event wreaked havoc on the game’s ever-changing map.

Right after players exited the vault at Loot Lake’s center, the eruption began. The whole map was immediately covered in darkness as molten rocks started bursting out of the volcano. Polar Peak mountain was the first to be affected by the explosion, a giant crack appearing after the first rock’s impact. Retail Row’s parking lot was then destroyed.

But the most extreme part of the explosion’s aftermath was yet to come.

Three giant rocks rocketed towards Tilted Towers. A few moments after the smoke cleared, Tilted Towers was hit again. This time the explosion was even bigger. As players got closer to the drop zone they realized that Tilted Towers was completely leveled, except for one building. The one with the “No Sweat Insurance” sign.

Fortnite players predicted Tilted Towers going away

Despite being among the game’s most popular locations, players have been predicting that Tilted Towers would be destroyed by the volcano. In fact, Fortnite fans were speculating that the city would be destroyed for over a year.

A comet hovering in the sky over Tilted Towers had confirmed these fan theories in April of 2018. Fortnite players formulated theories that Epic Games wanted to nuke the drop spot since many found it “unbalanced.”

A month later, when the centrally located spot was still in tact, Fortnite players decided to take matters into their own hands. A Reddit meetup was organized, calling for players to destroy every single structure in the city themselves.

This was Epic’s most, well, epic season finale event yet. Not only were at least two locations destroyed, but the drum gun was brought back by popular vote. The official end of Season 8 is just around the corner, and players are already wondering what new surprises Season 9 will have in store for the game’s map.
