Everything we know about 2022's secret VGU in League of Legends
There’s a secret League of Legends VGU waiting in the wings for later in 2022, here’s what we know about it.
Riot Games has been committing to updating and modernizing the looks of some of their older champions each year in League of Legends, one publicly voted on from the last year and the other decided internally. There’s not yet been any mention of exactly what 2022’s Visual Gameplay Update will include.
What do we know about the 2022 secret VGU?
With Udyr’s imminent update already being public knowledge, including developer blogs showing elements of his new kit and aesthetic, many fans are wondering who’s next. Earlier in the year, many theories involved this year’s possible world event concerning the
Void. The Void has plenty of champions whose aesthetics have aged poorly, mismatching the newer depictions of the mysterious threat.
Recently, developer Riot Reav3 announced that the incoming update wasn’t even a full Visual Gameplay Update. This would be a first-time occurrence for League of Legends fans, who were used to a full visual and mechanical overhaul for two members of the roster each year. In a thread about the upcoming Champion Roadmap, Reav3 said that the mystery project isn’t quite a VGU as fans have come to know them.
He also said it was very likely that the next Champion Roadmap will involve mentioning this mysterious champion update. It does seem likely that one of the champions associated with whichever region pulls focus in 2022’s world event will be the one to get this unusual update. New

splash art has appeared on the PBE recently, but Reav3 says the final mystery update hasn’t yet been greenlit at Riot.
Unless Riot decides to suddenly nix the update, fans can expect to see news about it in the coming weeks. There are plenty of candidates from League’s older days that could use some visual love and a mechanical tweak, but only time will tell who takes it home first.

The LCK is by far considered the strongest League of Legends region.
