The in-game leader of Evil Geniuses Kelden “Boostio” Pupello praised Valorant team Paper Rex following the team’s matchup at Champions.
In the upper final of Valorant Champions, Paper Rex managed to defeat Evil Geniuses to secure a place in the grand finals, sending Evil Geniuses to the lower bracket. After the match, Evil Geniuses player Boostio credited Paper Rex for the team’s aggressive playstyle and difficult setups.
During the post-match press conference, Boostio said it’s challenging to face off against Paper Rex.
“It feels so impossible just to play rounds against them, and it’s just honestly not fun to play against them. They’re really good,” he said.
Paper Rex is predominantly known for its in-your-face playstyle.
He said: “They’re so aggressive, like, I’ll be trying to call something, and then two of them swing out mid-doors. We’ll trade, and it’s not the best call anymore because they know where we’re at. There’s a lot going on versing them, and it sucks, but what’re you gonna do?”
The Pacific-based team Paper Rex took down North American favorites Evil Geniuses following a tense back-and-forth contest.
Evil Geniuses started out strong with a victory on Ascent but failed to stop Paper Rex on the second map.
Paper Rex had all of the momentum with eight round victories in a row on Bind, leading into the third map.
Pearl saw the match move into overtime, with both teams refusing to go down without a fight. But Paper Rex was able to close out the game with 15-13 victory.
With the victory, Paper Rex will await the victors of Evil Geniuses vs. LOUD to crown the Valorant Champions 2023, with the grand finals set to begin on Aug. 26.
