Fans of Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm have been anxiously awaiting the release of Project Moon, the first game that will be released from The Two-Time’s game studio, Midnight Society. Dr Disrespect has promoted the game with a controversial NFT-based Founder’s Pass and a new Times Square takeover.

On June 20, Dr Disrespect teased a Times Square takeover on Twitter. The tweet read “Hello NYC” but fans still weren’t exactly sure what Dr Disrespect had in store.

After a few days of silence, Dr Disrespect revealed why he had been absent from streaming this week. The tweet showed footage of a giant electronic billboard in Times Square showing a bold ad for Midnight Society and its upcoming game, Project Moon.

Many fans shared their photos and videos of meeting Dr Disrespect in New York City, thanking him for visiting the city and chatting with them. But others expressed frustration that Dr Disrespect had not streamed all week and was instead spending time advertising his game in New York City.

But it’s no secret that The Doc is looking to expand his career beyond streaming and into game development. He previously helped create maps for Call of Duty and has now founded his own development studio, Midnight Society. After the initial announcement, Dr Disrespect explained that Midnight Society will allow the gaming community to help shape and contribute to games.

Unfortunately, that idea ran into resistance when it was revealed that this focus on fans would be funneled through the Project Moon Founders’ Pass. The Founders’ Pass has fans enter an exclusive echelon of Claws called the Variants who get to actively participate in the development of the publisher’s games and participate in early access.

The Founders’ Pass also has Variant profile pictures that vary in rarity and can be traded and collected, bringing in an NFT element.

“Listen, in regards to NFTs, you don’t have to have NFTs to play the game. It doesn’t change your experience of the game once it releases and it will continue to be free-to-play. You can’t buy your way to win,” Dr Disrespect said after facing some backlash.

What is Project Moon?

Project Moon is a new game being developed by Dr Disrespect’s Midnight Society studio.

Not much is actually known about Project Moon except that it’s a “vertical battle royale.” The game revolves around a fire that starts at the bottom of a building, with players climbing up in floors throughout the match, each area is stacked on top of the other. The competitive title will have teams not only fight each other to survive but avoid the spreading fires.

The release date for Project Moon is currently unknown. There will be a Founders Event in Los Angeles at the end of July, meaning the game will most likely not be released in the next few months. For now, Dr Disrespect fans will have to wait for more information on the unique battle royale.
