The League of Legends off-season has started, and Riot Games has announced updates coming to ARAM including drastic changes to the map.

Summoner’s Rift is not the only venue getting changes over the off-season. Howling Abyss is looking different starting in patch 12.22. The changes are divided into three categories affecting runes, champions, and the map.

ARAM is a permanent game modes in League of Legends battling on a single-lane map. All champions are random and different stats are boosted in order to make the games more dynamic.

Omnivamp and Lifesteal against minions will be reduced by 50%. Long range attack damage will be reduced by 15%. Melee Champions are getting bonus Magic Resist from ten to 15. What it means in the game is that ADCs won’t be able to heal from a minion wave or get an advantage just for being ranged champions. Despite what many players would believe, ADC is the strongest role in ARAM. They are easy to kill but they can take down even the chunkiest Cho’Gath.

Specific champions are also getting changes. The champions getting a 20% Energy Regen buff are Akali, Kennen, Lee Sin, and Zed. Other champions will get 20% Tenacity including Katarina, Kayn, Kha’Zix, LeBlanc, Pyke, Qiyana, and more.

Ashe is getting targeted for nerfs specifically. With the correct build, Ashe can spam her abilities and make the opponent’s life pretty miserable. As a result, Ashe is getting -20 Ability Haste.

Map changes in ARAM

Howling Abyss will have new elements starting on Patch 12.23. The map will now get Hexgates that take players from the base to the outer turret. Once the outer turret is taken down, the Hexgate will transfer to the inhibitor turret where it will stay for the remaining of the game.

Speaking of turrets, once they fall, turrets will become terrain, changing the pathing of minions and creating new choke points. Additionally, a new bush will appear on the bottom side of the lane, across the big bushes in the middle of the lane.

Last but not least, the changes will be added into the game with a special edition of Clash. On December 10 and 11, a Clash tournament in Howling Abyss is taking place. Players will get 2 rerolls per game and those who participate get a free exclusive icon.
