Why did Elon Musk tweet Arcane Jinx's splash art?

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk shook up Twitter earlier today by tweeting the splash art for the League of Legends character Jinx’s Arcane skin, tied in with the hit animated series.

Why did one of the richest people on the face of the earth post Arcane’s protagonist? Is this setting up another social media meltdown from Musk prompted from his refusal to credit the creator of fan artwork for Nier: Automata?

Is Elon Musk an Arcane fan?

Elon Musk is no stranger to unusual and eccentric Twitter postings, some getting him into more trouble than others. The Tesla CEO hasn’t balked at attempting to meme along with the best that the internet has to offer. Today was no exception.

Arcane, the animated League of Legends series on Netflix, debuted throughout November following the 2021 Worlds finals. Despite the final act airing weeks ago, Musk took the night of The Game Awards to make reference to the hit show with very little context.

The League of Legends fandom responded in a predictable fashion, perplexed and confused with a fair helping of snark. From Jack “Courage” Dunlop asking the SpaceX CEO if he was looking forwards to season two to Valorant pro player Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk getting in on the fun with some tongue-in-cheek feigned ignorance.

Elon Musk Jinx tweet shakes up League of Legends social media

The head of Riot Games Music even got in on Musk’s mention, asking him about the soundtrack. A long list of Riot Games-related and League of Legends personalities are taking their chance to be noticed by the billionaire. With subsequent tweets, it’s clear that Musk is enjoying stirring the social media pot in whatever way he can.

Whether Musk is going to make reference to Arcane in-depth or if this unexpected crossing of worlds is once only is yet to be seen. Whether it’s a well-crafted PR move or a genuine interest of Musk’s will probably never be answered but for now, the League of Legends space is abuzz with what it could mean.
