Star streamer Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter is a powerhouse on YouTube and a co-owner of 100 Thieves. She’s now added “beauty guru” to her list of accomplishments, but fans are quite skeptical of her new brand.
RFLCT is a skincare line that’s all about protecting gamers’ faces from blue light pollution, which comes from phone and PC screens. Valkryae announced on Twitter that she’s the co-founder of the company.
According to Valkyrae, this is a project the streamer has been working on for two years. The products include moisturizers, cleansers, eye creams, and lip balm. On the site, Valkyrae and her team recommend two different skin routines that use different products.
A lot of fans were skeptical of RFLCT, feeling like the concept of protection from blue light was a gimmick. Some compared it to essential oils and Himalayan salt rocks. Others felt she was “creating a problem” so she could “offer a solution,” essentially milking her devoted followers for cash.
The website has a terms of service page that warns of RFLCT’s possible psuedo-science roots. It states that RFLCT is not responsible for information on the site being “accurate or current.” The material should “not be relied upon” as the sole basis for purchasing the products.
“Any reliance on the material on this site is at your own risk,” the website states.
Others noted that there are already screen settings and glasses that deal with blue light pollution, though these are meant to protect one’s eyes from blue light, not the skin. Either way, fans of Valkyrae have given her a lot of positive feedback regarding the venture.
