BlizzCon 2023 was big for fans of Overwatch 2, with developers diving into what’s in store for 2024. One thing that had everyone talking was a new hero called Venture.
Three new heroes are coming to Overwatch 2 in 2024, including Space Ranger and Venture, a DPS hero. Developers shared a lot of interesting information about Venture, including their gameplay and abilities. Here’s what to expect.
Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared early gameplay footage of Venture to give fans an idea of what’s to come. In the footage, you can see Venture moving around underground. This is definitely something new for the game.
“So they can burst up out of the ground and do additional damage, have vertical mobility to it. They move around the map really well,” Keller said.
While you’re underground, you’re invulnerable. This makes it a great way to escape or aggressively reach players, depending on the in-game situation you’re in. Combined with a dash, Venture definitely has a lot of great mobility options.
Venture’s weapon is also very unique, shooting a projectile at a set distance. It explodes right when it lands. It can even hit enemy heroes around corners.
The panel left many wondering if Venture would be able to contest a point while burrowing. Others felt that Venture would be OP due to the extreme mobility options. Of course, only time will tell how Venture will fit into the roster and meta.
On the BlizzCon 2023 stage, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared some early gameplay footage of Venture. He noted that the footage is from a playtest. The video showed Venture burrowing underground to get from one location to another.
During the presentation, fans noticed that Keller used they/them pronouns when discussing Venture. This led to some questioning Venture’s identity.
It’s still unclear what Venture’s exact identity is, however, since nobody has confirmed if they are non-binary or what their orientation is. Still, Venture is most likely part of Overwatch 2’s growing list of LGBTQ+ heroes.
