TheGrefg is almost unknown in the United States, but the Spanish-speaking streamer is a massive deal on Twitch.

David Cánovas “TheGrefG” Martínez is a Spanish Twitch streamer. His channel is currently the seventh most-followed channel on the platform with just under 17 million followers. He began posting on YouTube in 2012 before later switching to Twitch. Now TheGrefg runs one of the most popular channels on Twitch. He mostly streams casual games like Minecraft and Roblox, but still plays battle royales from time to time.

TheGrefg holds Twitch record for most viewers

One of TheGrefg’s biggest achievements is holding the record for the most concurrent viewers on Twitch.

In January of 2021, he announced that he would reveal his custom Fortnite skin during a public stream. His viewership exploded into a new record for the most viewers on Twitch. TheGrefg’s Fortnite skin stream capped out at 2,470,347. That’s almost a million more than the second most-watched stream.

TheGrefg’s custom Fortnite skin was teased for months ahead of its official reveal. The cosmetic was delayed several times, which only added to the anticipation. The final result was the most-watched stream in Twitch history, a record that’s unlikely to be broken anytime soon. TheGrefg is very popular in both his native country of Spain and throughout Latin America, which gives him a very diverse fan base.

The stream absolutely shattered the previous record for most concurrent viewers on Twitch. Rival battle royale streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins previously had the highest viewed stream at 667,000 watchers. TheGrefg’s Fornite skin reveal had nearly four times as many viewers.

How did TheGrefg get famous?

TheGrefg began his journey as a content creator on YouTube. In 2012, he began uploading videos of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay with commentary. His skills caught the attention of thousands of fans, which spurred him on to create different types of content. Even though Twitch is his primary platform, TheGrefg’s YouTube channel still gets millions of daily views.

After switching to Twitch, TheGrefg quickly became one of the most popular Spanish-speaking streamers. Battle royales, especially Fortnite, were his bread and butter content. He currently streams a very wide variety of games including Clash Royale, chess, Minecraft, Roblox, and even the occasional return to Fortnite.

In addition to gaming, TheGrefg has published multiple books about various topics. One of his published works is about how to become popular on YouTube and another claims to reveal the secrets to esports success. TheGrefg is also an entrepreneur. He is a co-founder of Team Heretics, a multi-title esports organization with rosters in Valorant, Call of Duty, and more.

Where does TheGrefg live?

TheGrefg’s location is unknown, as he prefers to keep certain personal details private. His location is confidently listed on social media as “where I want.” Considering his fame across multiple platforms, that’s definitely true,

TheGrefg was born in Alhama de Murcia, a town in central Spain. He later moved to Andorra, a tiny independent state sandwiched between France and Spain. It’s safe to assume that TheGrefg currently lives somewhere in Spain, as he frequently collaborates with other regional talents.
