Wukong recently received a small rework that has led to him terrorizing solo queue games. If you’ve been left scratching your head and looking for a solution, here’s who counters Wukong in both the jungle and top lane.

Wukong is a tricky bruiser, able to outmaneuver and outwit his opponents with quick trades and a powerful ultimate. As a result of a small rework that allows him to cross walls with his W, Wukong has suddenly become more popular in solo queue. If you’re losing to the monkey monk and need a solution, here’s who counters Wukong in both of his primary roles.

Who counters Wukong in jungle?

The champions who best counter Wukong in jungle tend to be high-damage skirmishers who prey on his low early damage in jungle and his limited mobility. The champion with the best win rate into Wukong jungle is Shyvana, and there are several reasons for this.

When Wukong looks to go invisible, Shyvana’s W can reveal his location as he moves thanks to its damage over time effect. At the same time, Shyvana can eventually play most fights from outside of Wukong’s range using her high-damage builds, or she can go toe-to-toe in tank builds if that’s what her team needs. Either way, she is able to support her team and effectively counter Wukong’s strengths.

Other champions who perform well against Wukong in the jungle are assassins like Kha’Zix, Shaco, and Evelynn. Wukong is especially effective against physical damage, so magic damage dealers gain extra value against Wukong.

Wukong counters for top lane

The champions that best perform against Wukong in the top lane are either all-in fighters who can stick to Wukong or ranged champions able to deal damage safely from a distance. Quinn has the highest win rate against Wukong, able to poke and kite him with ease. Vladimir succeeds for similar reasons, while burly fighters such as Shen, Garen, and even Warwick can deal with Wukong’s damage and then punish him for expending his cooldowns.

Wukong will always excel in team fights where he’s able to use both charges of his ultimate to disrupt entire teams. Look to punish him when he’s alone and spread out to avoid disastrous knock-ups from his ultimate. With these simple tips and the right champion picks, you should have no trouble countering Wukong in the top lane or in the jungle.
