The first DLC for Elden Ring is still under wraps, but longtime FromSoftware fans may already have an idea of a release date.

For as big of a game as Elden Ring was, there are still tons of unanswered questions about the lore. The biggest question marks relate to Miquella, Malenia, and their Haligtree. When Shadow of the Erdtree was first announced in late February of 2023, it promised to answer at least some of the fans’ burning curiosities. However, the developer has been silent ever since. With so few details to work off of,

First, fans do have some limited information about Shadow of the Erdtree. We know that it will involve Torrent, and while not entirely confirmed, most fans believe it will shed light on the mysteries surrounding Miquella. Both bits are inferred from the single piece of concept art released for the expansion. There are also a few givens, including that it will include new boss fights, exploration zones, weapons, spells, and NPCs.

But other than that, details have been very scarce since the initial announcement. With so little information to go off of, this is our best guess for the release date of the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Elden Ring DLC release date could still be a year away

We predict that Shadow of the Erdtree will launch in early 2024 with a potential early release in December of 2023.

This estimate is based on the DLC release timelines for FromSoftware’s previous games. Ashes of Ariandel came out six months after Dark Souls 3, and Sekiro’s free content update came out 18 months after that game’s release. That gives a rough range to judge. With Elden Ring’s DLC being announced a year after the base game’s release, it’s safe to say that the six to 18-month range should start then.

As for the longer delay, FromSoftware has been incredibly tight-lipped about the DLC since it was announced more than six months ago. If it was deeper in development, the company would be more inclined to show off. In addition, Elden Ring was a massive success for the company, far outselling all previous releases. FromSoftware has an incentive to take its time with the Elden RIng DLC and not reveal a peep until a release date can be 100% confirmed.
