Esports tournaments are a huge deal, with teams investing millions in the hopes of coming out on top. When this doesn’t happen, there are consequences, including for team members that didn’t perform as expected.
Unfortunately for MAD Lions KOI mid laner Fresskowy, the repercussions of his poor performance in the recent LOL Worlds 2024 have become evident.
On October 10, 2024, Fresskowy confirmed on Twitter/X that he’s been allowed to pursue other teams for next year’s tournament. In the tweet, he said, “Hello everyone. I’m still under contract with @MADLionsKOI, but I’ve been allowed to explore options for 2025. VOD’s available upon request.”
While, on the surface, this sounds like he’s still with the Lions, eSports fans will know that being allowed to explore other teams means that the player is probably not returning to their old one. This announcement also came very soon after the Lions had to drop out of the 2024 tournament. Fresskowy, in particular, was criticized for his performance as Yone.
Fresskowy was a relatively risky hire when he first came on to the Lions. He’s been a competitive player for a few years but this is the biggest team he’s been attached to so far. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had a very successful outing with them. The biggest win the Lions scored this year was LEC Winter Tournament where they came in second place. They also came third in the Season Finals, which earned them a place at the Worlds 2024 Tournament.
Going in, they were already facing controversy as fans had little faith in their ability to clinch a win. They ended up losing to GAM and now, Fresskowy is on the lookout for a new team to join. There’s also the fact that his contract is valid until mid-2026, so he’ll need a team to buy him out, which won’t come cheap.
With a complicated situation with his current team, plus his poor performance at LOL Worlds 2024, the future of Fresskowy’s career as a gamer is anyone’s guess.
