What is the League of Legends player count in 2022?

League of Legends is the world’s single largest video game title when measured by number of players. But exactly how many people are playing League of Legends each month in 2022?

China dominates 2022 player count for League of Legends

The player count for League of Legends in 2022 sees tens of millions of players scattered across its many geographic regions, ranging from North America to China. The Chinese player base dwarfs every other region, with exponentially more servers and players than its western peers. There are 27 Chinese servers with more than 115 million accounts created and approximately 75 million monthly unique League of Legends players in China alone.

Compared to China, the other regions don’t quite measure up. Previous estimates have set Europe West as the next biggest region with 21 million accounts created. Europe would be followed by Korea, North America, and Brazil. In November 2021, following the World Championships and the premier of animated Netflix show Arcane, Riot announced that it had hit 180 million monthly players across all its servers combined going into 2022.

China has become League of Legends’ best region in professional play, with EDward Gaming taking home the World Championship trophy in 2021 over Korean favorite Damwon KIA. This is partially due to the absolutely massive scale of its player base and servers. China even has an exclusive “super server” filled with only the best players from the Chinese region. Even an Iron player on the super server is enormously more skilled than most players on other server around the globe.

Is League of Legends bigger than Dota 2?

League of Legends’ numbers crush the next biggest MOBA competitor, Valve’s Dota 2. Dota 2 has recently had approximately half a million players every 30 days according to Steam’s monthly metrics. This is less than 1% of League of Legends’ most recent monthly numbers and shows the enormous scale of Riot Games’ top property.

While other games have come and gone that have temporarily topped LoL’s numbers, League of Legends has consistently returned to the spot of top video game in the world. LoL shows no sign of stopping its domination in 2022 with these numbers continuing to grow.
