Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes with an abundance of racers and karts to ensure endless combinations and winning formulas. But there are some karts, wheels, and gliders that need to be unlocked.

Some of the most desirable unlockables in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are the gold items. Gold Mario is coveted by Mario Kart fans, as is the gold kart, wheels, and glider. Here is how to unlock gold items in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

How to unlock the gold kart in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The gold version of the standard kart in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can be unlocked by winning every cup with a single star on both 150cc and Mirror Mode in Grand Prix. This is most definitely a big challenge for racers but it’s worth it for the status of owning the gold kart.

Unfortunately, the gold kart isn’t too great. It has good speed and weight but the acceleration and traction are considered pretty underwhelming by competitive racers.

How to unlock the gold tires in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The gold collection isn’t complete without the gold tires. To unlock the gold tires in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, racers have to beat every Staff Ghost in Time Trial mode at 150cc. Staff Ghosts are Nintendo employees that have set times for racers to beat in Time Trials.

So are the gold wheels any good? These shiny tires give karts an advantage when it comes to speed and weight. Unfortunately, they give players a disadvantage in acceleration and traction. There are better tires to use if looking for consistent top finishes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but gold tires aren’t too shabby.

Looking to complete the gold collection? The gold glider can be unlocked with 10,000 coins in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Gliders don’t make much of an impact on your kart build so feel free to use the gold glider if you prefer its shiny, ritzy appearance.
