Overwatch League fans are already buzzing about the 2020 season. With a completely global schedule and a revolving list of broadcast talent, Season 3 has a lot of changes that have the community curious about the league’s future. While controversy at Blizzard continues, there’s no debate that this season has an impressive mix of veteran talent and exciting newcomers that are sure to make matches more explosive than ever.

Let’s take a look at which players you should keep an eye on especially as the intense tournament looms overhead. A blend of deadly damage dealing and unstoppable teamwork makes these players some of the most anticipated talents to date.

Sinatraa, San Francisco Shock

Would any list of OWL players be complete without Jay “Sinatraa” Won? The Shock all but dominated Season 2, becoming not just Stage 2 champions, but the overall champions for the season. Their biggest rivals, the Vancouver Titans, couldn’t hold them back and fans saw the Shock win in a surprisingly quick 4-0 Grand Finals match.

The Overwatch community largely credits Sinatraa for these victories, since the young player seems to be unstoppable in any meta and with any hero. That includes the memorable time when Sinatraa used Doomfist to annihilate the New York Excelsior. It’s no surprise he was the MVP last season and we expect him to continue being a player to watch come 2020’s season.

SP9RK1E, Paris Eternal

While Sinatraa might be the most popular Overwatch League player, Kim “SP9RK1E” Young-han might just give him a run for that title once Season 3 is underway. After establishing himself as one of the best DPS players in the Contenders scene, the former Element Mystic player became one of the most sought-after players of the offseason.

His loyal following may have been shocked that he picked underdog team Paris Eternal as his new home, but the unstoppable Doomfist wasn’t the only Element Mystic player to make Eternal their new home. Bringing their pinpoint accuracy and exceptional teamwork to Paris Eternal, these newcomers have made the team one of the most anticipated squads of 2020. SP9RK1E just won’t be joining his teammates on the stage until he turns 18 in May.

DDing, Shanghai Dragons

Yang “DDing” Jin-Hyeok is considered one of the best projectile players in the world. His Pharah, Mei, and Hanzo have continued to spice up Overwatch League highlight reels and Season 3 is expected to be no different. Joined by Bae “Diem” Min-Seong and rookie LIP, the Shanghai Dragons are looking to step it up in 2020.

ErsTer, Atlanta Reign

South Korean flex DPS player Joon “ErsTer” Jeong has become one of the most deadly damage dealers in the Overwatch League. While he started his professional journey as a Genji main, ErsTer has continued to impress with his hitscan skills and projectile play. When paired with fellow DPS stars like Andrej “Babybay” Francisty and Kim “Edison” Tae-Hoon from the Contenders, he’s looking to make the Atlanta Reign into quite the powerhouse in Season 3.

The team’s flexible DPS roster makes them a force to be reckoned with no matter what the meta is. Fans are thinking ErsTer and his DPS bretheren might even rival the San Francisco Shock.

LIP, Shanghai Dragons

Shanghai Dragons fans have already witnessed Lee “LIP” Jae-won’s superior DPS abilities thanks to the Shanghai Masters Invitational. All four Chinese Overwatch League teams had taken part in the preseason showdown, and thanks to LIP’s godly Reaper skills, the Dragons steamrolled Chengdu Hunters, Hangzhou Spark, and Guangzhou Charge. It will definitely be exciting to see LIP and his squad take on the rest of the world’s top Overwatch players come February 8.

Ameng, Chengdu Hunters

Menghan “Ameng” Ding continuously shocked Overwatch League viewers and opponents alike with his big-brained Wrecking Ball plays. While most analysts agreed that Ameng would have been one of the best Reinhardts in the league during the GOATS meta, Ameng instead decided to rock Hammond like no other player has ever been able to on stage.

The Chengdu Hunters also received the only Mercy MVP in Season 2 and continued to pick other off-meta heroes and comps throughout the season, making them one of the most fun teams to watch. With new metas emerging in 2020, it’s safe to say that Ameng and his squad will be shaking up the season in brand new ways.

Alarm, Philadelphia Fusion

The Overwatch League has been a long time coming for Kim “Alarm” Kyeong-bo. The flex support impressed while playing for the Fusion’s Contenders team, helping Fusion University win four championships. Then there was the win at the Atlantic Showdown. Fusion most likely had their eyes on the Zenyatta and Ana main for a while, but were waiting until he turned 18, finally making him eligible for the OWL.

Gamsu, Dallas Fuel

Bringing Shanghai Dragons from worst team in the OWL to Stage 3 champions was an accomplishment many attributed to Noh “Gamsu” Yeong-jin. Although the tank player was outwardly disappointed when he was traded from Boston Uprising to Shanghai Dragons at the start of Season 2, Gamsu soon motivated his team to stop doubting themselves and start showing the world what they’re made of.

It’s hard to forget Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim’s tears when the team broke their 42-game loss streak by beating the Boston Uprising. It will be interesting to see what he can accomplish on the Dallas Fuel.

Overwatch League 2020 less than a month away. With matche set to be held all across the world, fans continue to wonder how travel will affect their favorite players. There are a lot of factors going into each team’s success this time around, but the strongest rosters will still prevail and the best players will still shine.
