Shroud shows off X-rays from elbow surgery, discusses procedure

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has been through a whole lot over the last few weeks.

That was plain to see on the popular streamer’s latest broadcast, as he showed off x-rays featuring his surgically repaired elbow. Though he has been open about the severity of the injury, this shines a whole new light on just much work needed to be done to fix him up.

The x-rays show off a lengthy plate along the top of his ulna and into his elbow. It is held in place by at least nine screws set into the bone. Shroud stated on Twitch that the surgery was designed to fix his olecranon process, the part of the ulna that wraps around the humerus and forms the tip of the elbow. The plate and screws are implanted to hold all the pieces of the bone in place, allowing the bone to heal in a way that allows regular movement of the elbow.

Shroud’s elbow was injured last month during a scooter accident. Just a day after the former Cloud9 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player hit 100,000 subscribers on Twitch, he stated stated he was undergoing surgery on his left elbow on Twitter. Details slowly emerged on what had happened through Shroud’s roommate and fellow former CS:GO professional, Justin “Just9n” Ortiz.

Just9n announced on his own stream that Shroud was involved in a major accident. He was clear that while Shroud was fine, his injury was a major one.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Shroud remained a steady presence on social media. He bantered with other streamers and pro players about Apex Legends and CS:GO while at the hospital and returned to streaming just a few days after the accident. Still, the full-arm cast he was forced to wear made it clear that he had been involved in something serious.

On March 29 he announced on Twitter that he had undergone a second surgery on his arm. While this has hampered him a bit, he has still remained active on Twitch.

Shroud seems to be in good spirits and is actually scheduled to compete in an Apex Legends tournament while he recovers. But he still has a fair bit of work ahead of him.
