Riot shows new LoL map design for 2v2v2v2
Riot Games has shown off initial designs for the new LoL map created for the upcoming 2v2v2v2 deathmatch mode coming to League of Legends.
It’s been a long time since a new map was added to League of Legends. The last new map was the Nexus Blitz map, an experimental game mode that’s still on hiatus pending changes. This new map would be the locale for League of Legends’ upcoming 2v2v2v2 multi-team deathmatch mode. Riot Games showed off the new map prototypes on socials and in videos so fans can get their first glimpses at the new battlegrounds for League of Legends.
New LoL map designs revealed
Riot Games has announced that the next game mode would be four teams of two fighting on a small map. In recent posts to social media, Riot has given fans glimpses of initial explorations for the map’s design. Two designs are shown off in the art Riot Games is sharing. Each design is a circular floating stone island with a wall around the circumference. Inside the wall is the arena in which players would do battle. One design resembles Summoner’s Rift’s terrain. It has overgrown stone floors with mossy designs, a river, and four stone pillars with adjacent bushes.
The second design is quite different from any of the existing League of Legends maps. It’s an ashen plain with rocks and magma forming Y-shaped terrain on each side of the circle. This map evokes a much darker aesthetic, resembling the very old and unreleased map Magma Chamber, which was meant to be a 10v10 option for the game. These designs are only early explorations, however, and fans could see the map change drastically before release.
This mode won’t just be eight players slugging it out, as Augments will be added to the game. Augments are unique upgrades that will empower a champion with new capabilities each match. If you want to know all about Augments and other mechanics Riot is testing, check out our article.
