Overwatch 2’s rocky launch has put a bad taste in the mouth of players, but Blizzard’s new strategy to make amends sounds promising. It includes freebies, after all.

The hype around Overwatch 2 was incredible, but a disappointing launch dulled the fun. DDoS attacks, log-in issues, and long queues are a few hiccups to name that drove many players away. Those who returned were met with new problems and bugs, causing discontent. Unfortunately, the same issues continue to mar the game; even worse, they’re now coupled with in-game bugs.

The good thing is that Blizzard is well-aware and aims to make amends with frustrated players. The developer has announced free goodies after presumably ironing out the issues in hopes of getting a fresh start.

“Launching Overwatch 2 as a live service comes with amazing opportunities and challenges, both anticipated and unexpected. We’ve largely stabilized the game overall, and we’ve made a lot of progress in fixing or improving issues some of you are facing,” Blizzard said.

To help make up for the shaky launch, Blizzard is planning to run several Double Match XP weekends. Echoing this, Extra XP will be available to bag over the weekends for a short time, but exact dates are yet to be announced.

Besides that, an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and a Health Pack Weapon Charm will also become attainable for those who suffered the brunt of the DDoS attacks.

However, the two items will only be given to those who log in from October 25 through to the end of Season One. Therefore, these items will become part of your collection from the first time you log in during that time window.

So, while Overwatch 2’s launch wasn’t precisely the smoothest, it seems the developer is now looking to win back the players. Unsurprisingly, the community isn’t too impressed by the free goodies. Instead, a bug-free game remains the top priority of Overwatch 2 fans.

Some players have expressed gratitude for the free cosmetics, but others aren’t sold just yet. The reason could be recent Bastion and Torbjorn bugs that had nothing to do with external attacks. The developer had to disable the duo to fix game-breaking bugs in their kits.
