Blizzard is cooking up something exciting for Overwatch 2 fans. The developer has teased a game mode dubbed Battle for Olympus in the season two trailer.

Overwatch 2 is a fiercely competitive game at the core. There’s no room to mess around, but casual players like to have fun in creative game modes. For them, Blizzard occasionally rolls out PvE events solely to have fun. The developer now seems to be creating a new mode that’d potentially let players fight as gods and higher beings.

Battle for Olympus is still under wraps, but the Overwatch 2 season two trailer provides plenty to glean from. So here’s all we know about it.

What is Battle for Olympus in Overwatch 2?

Battle for Olympus will be a limited-time event in Overwatch 2 that runs from January 5 to January 19. Blizzard is still tight-lipped about the event, and leakers don’t have much to say either, but a clue seems to be hidden in the season 2 blog

“These heroes and several others will be imbued with awesome god-like powers in our new Battle for Olympus game mode,” Blizzard says.

Blizzard dropped a cheeky hint, suggesting that the event will have something to do with season two’s skins. Mind you, the battle pass and skins for Overwatch 2 season two are deeply rooted in Greek mythology, which ties smoothly with the game title “Battle for Olympus.” Upcoming skins in season 2 include Zeus Junker Queen, Poseidon Ramattra, and Legendary Hades Pharah. These skins point at a godly theme that would pair well with a god-themed game mode.

Besides Ramattra’s abilities and a new map, season 2’s trailer provided a brief peek into the game mode, which showed teams battling it out on Ilios. It’s unknown how exactly this game mode tackles mythology, but players should expect new weapons and maybe golden powers to buff already existing toolkits.

The new game mode has been teased in the trailer, but it’s still a whole month away from the release. Overwatch 2 season two begins on December 6, but Battle for Olympus will become playable in January after the Winter Wonderland event.
