In a recent interview, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent confirmed that Arcane Season 2 will not be coming out in 2023.

Since the hit animated adaptation of League of Legends surged to widespread popularity in 2021, many fans have been waiting to hear about the next installment. Arcane’s second season had been announced shortly after the first season had ended, but nothing solid had been confirmed for the future. In a recent interview, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent revealed that there would be no 2023 Arcane Season 2 debut, quashing the hopes of many fans.

No Arcane Season 2 in 2023 says Riot Games CEO

In a recent video published to the Chinese social media site Bilibili, Riot Games’ CEO confirms that there won’t be any more Arcane this year. During it, Nicolo Laurent was asked a question from a Chinese fan about when the second season would release.

In response, he says, “I just watched the third episode of Season 2, before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It’s not ready yet. There are two reasons for that, you want the quality, we just don’t want to rush, and so that takes time, and that’s a good reason. The bad reason is that, honestly, we didn’t know if Season 1 was going to be a success. So we didn’t start Season 2 until after. We didn’t know. And so if I’d known [Arcane was going to be successful], we could have started Season 2 way earlier, but we didn’t know so we kind of waited a bit and so now we’re paying the price.”

This may come as a surprise to some fans, as the second season’s announcement included voice acting that implied production had already begun. Instead, it turns out Riot Games had played its hand conservatively and waited to see how Arcane went over. No matter the reason, Arcane’s next installment won’t be out this year, so look forwards to 2024.
