New Scarlet and Violet Pokemon Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv shown
The second trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has revealed five new Pokemon including Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv.
Ahead of the reveals of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet cover legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon, three non-legendaries were also revealed. According to the official website, these new additions are Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv.
Though few details on the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games were given in the trailer, a lot has been revealed about this trio of new Pokemon. Here’s what we know about the new Pokemon coming in gen nine.
New Scarlet and Violet Pokemon revealed
There are three new Pokemon coming to Scarlet and Violet in Pawmi, Lechonk, and Smoliv. These new Pokemon are associated with Nemona, one of the new characters revealed in the trailer. The official website revealed the types and abilities for all three and gave some hints about what they’ll be like in battle.
Pawmi is a new electric type Pokemon
Pawmi is a new electric-type Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. It will have access to both Static and Natural Cure as its abilities, though Static will likely be the preferred of the two in battle. Though it’s categorized as a “mouse” Pokemon it has an appearance more similar to a chinchilla. This is somewhat similar to how Bidoof is labeled as the “plump mouse Pokemon” despite obviously being a beaver.
Lechonk is a new Scarlet and Violet normal-type Pokemon
Lechonk is a pure normal-type Pokemon. It’s possible that Lechonk will fit into the early-game normal-type niche inhabited by the likes of Rattata, Zigzagoon, and Sentret, but the fact that it’s one of the signature Pokemon of a rival means that may not be the case. Lechonk is likely meant to be based on the black Iberian pig, a species of pig native to Spain.
Smoliv is grass-normal type
The third new Pokemon revealed is Smoliv, a grass-normal Pokemon. Though it looked similar enough to Budew to be a possible regional variant, that’s not the case. Instead, this is a new Pokemon reminiscent of olives. It has the Early Bird ability and seemingly has a new and possibly unique oil-based set of moves that will help to control the tempo of battle.
Do Smoliv, Pawmi, and Lechonk evolve?
Smoliv, Pawmi, and Lechonk will almost certainly be able to evolve, but it is unclear what they will turn into.
The basic form of the three was revealed but it’s unknown what they might evolve into. There’s a chance that Pawmi might not evolve and will instead be something in the vein of Pachirisu and Togedemaru, but fans that like the fluffy Pokemon need not concern themselves too much just yet.
Expect them to be revealed alongside other new Scarlet and Violet Pokemon in the coming months.
