Mega Charizard X has returned to Pokemon GO. From April 4 to the 13th, there will be Pokemon GO Mega Raids featuring the X version of Mega Charizard, a powerful Fire monster that gives you Mega Energy.
If you want to beat this iconic and imposing Pokemon, here is what you’ll need to do.
Mega Charizard X is a Dragon and Fire-type. That means it’s weak to Dragon, Ground, and Rock-type Pokemon. On the other hand, it has resistance to Bug, Electric, and Steel-type — and double resistance to Fire and Grass. All this means that you should stick to Dragon, Ground, and Rock Pokemon in most instances.
Here are some of the best counters:
Mega Rayquaza
Primal Groudon
Mega Garchomp
Mega Salamence
Origin Forme Palkia
Origin Forme Dialga
Mega Diancie
Mega Tyranitar
Zekrom
Reshiram
Rampardos
Therian Forme Landorus
As you can probably guess, you should select Dragon, Ground, and Rock-type moves if you really want to damage Mega Charizard X.
You probably noticed a lot of these Pokemon are Mega evolutions. That’s because you will get more candy and XL candy when you catch Pokemon with a Mega evolution. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Fire or Flying-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.
Here are the Pokemon to Mega evolve for extra Charizard candy:
Pidgeot
Pinsir
Aerodactyl
Houndoom
Blaziken
Salamence
Groudon
Rayquaza
Charizard
How many trainers do I need to beat Mega Charizard X in Pokemon GO?
Since Mega Charizard X is so tough, it’s best to have at least a group of five lower-level trainers of three higher levels. The faster you complete a Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you get, so the more the merrier.
