Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is on the verge of release, but those who have accessed the campaign early have shared a scoop on MW2 perks.

Infinity Ward is refreshing the CoD franchise with Modern Warfare 2, bringing gameplay innovations, all-new gun handling, and advanced AI. The immersive multiplayer combat was a smashing success during the beta that ran during the last few weeks of September. Those convinced to pre-order MW2 are currently enjoying the game hot on the heels of a release on October 28

From the looks of it, a lot will remain the same in MW2, but Infinity Ward has added some spice to the perk system.

How do Modern Warfare 2 perk packages work?

MW2

Perk packages now include bonus and ultimate perks as debutants and will heavily impact in-game strength, survivability, and mobility. Players will have four different perk slots for a basic, bonus, and ultimate perks. However, all of these won’t be activated right away. Instead, players must unlock bonus and ultimate over the course of the match.

Initially, eight bonus perks will be presented, out of which players must pick two to fill up the slots. The bonus perk unlocks 4 minutes into the match, whereas the ultimate will become available after eight minutes. Both perks have six types, of which players can pick one of each.

Each perk includes various boosts that players can pick from, but not all are equally viable. So, you must select carefully.

Best perks in MW2

There’s a lot to choose from, but we have picked out the top three perks for each slot and their function.

Best basic perks

Double Time: Double the duration of Tactical Sprint. Increases crouch movement speed by 30%.

Overkill: Carry two primary weapons.

Extra Tactical: Spawn with one additional Tactical.

Best bonus perks

Cold-Blooded: Undetectable by AI targeting systems, and thermal optics. Does not trigger a High Alert warning. Does not highlight enemy Tactical Cameras, Recon Drones, and Spotter Scopes.

Spotter: Spot enemy equipment, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks through walls. Aiming down sights highlights them for the team. Hack enemy Claymores, Proximity Mines, C4, and Trophy Systems.

Fast Hands: Reload, use equipment, and swap weapons faster.

Best ultimate perks

Survivor: On death, enter Last Stand with the ability to self-revive once per life. Teammates can revive downed players faster.

Bird’s Eye: The minimap is zoomed out. UAV and Radar pings reveal the enemy’s direction. ON-EARN: Ping enemies on the minimap.

Ghost: Undetectable by UAVs, Portable Radars, and Heartbeat Sensors.

MW2 is still days away from release, so it’s unknown how the new bonus and ultimate perk system work out on the field. We shall find out on Friday, October 28.
