An important match will unfold during week 3 of the 2022 LEC Spring Split, as MAD Lions and Misfits Gaming will fight for a spot in the top three.

The two teams will enter this week completely even in the standings, with a 3-2 record on each side. Going up against each other, this is a match that can decide a lot as the winner will get a big step ahead of the other in the standings. G2 Esports is also currently sitting at a 3-2 record, meaning that the current fight to stay among the top three teams is a tight one.

Both teams will be entering this match with confidence, but also with cracks in the armor. MAD Lions will likely have the most confidence as the team finished last week with a win over Astralis, which helped the squad regain momentum after a rough loss to the undefeated team Rogue.

Conversely, Misfits ended last week with a loss to Fnatic. In that match it was proven that Misfits might still need some time to compete with the best in the league, so taking on MAD Lions will be a big step. So far, Misfits has taken down Excel Esports, Team BDS, and Astralis. All three wins are against teams that are considered lower in the standings, and now will be a bigger test.

For this match, things really could go either way. Both teams have shown some great signs this season but also some inconsistency. MAD Lions is a team that many people expect a lot from, but it’s clear that the two rookies on the squad are still getting accustomed to the big stage. Luckily, bot laner William “UNF0RGIVEN” Nieminen has been amazing so far and seems like a promising carry for the team.

The same goes for Misfit, who still need to show that they can beat out some of the heavy hitter in the league. Misfits has a lot of skill and potential on the team, but it is still a young squad. This clearly shows when the team falls behind in games, but is something that should improve the longer the split goes.

MAD Lions will be the ones entering this match as the favorites, but Misfits might not be as far behind as people think.

MAD Lions favored to beat Misfits, but is it worth it?

Looking at the match from a betting perspective, this matchup is an interesting one. MAD Lions is without a doubt the team that most people expect to win despite the two being even in the standings. This is also reflected by bookmakers, as MAD Lions are heavy betting favorites.

The defending LEC champion has a lot of talent on the squad but is still in a rebuilding phase. The same really goes for Misfits, which is why a match like this could go both ways. Looking at the odds, it’s risky betting on MAD Lions as not a lot stands to be gained. Hoping that Misfits pull off the upset seems like the more valuable choice.

Going with MAD Lions in this case will only give odds of only 1.33 despite the two teams being even in the standings. Misfits will have whopping odds at 3.05, which may be worth a shot

The match between Misfits and MAD Lions will take place on Saturday, January 29.
