YouTuber Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach left fans worried when he posted a shocking selfie in the hospital on his birthday.

Long-time YouTube star Markiplier currently has over 35 million subscribers who follow him for his video game content and candid personality. But his most recent YouTube video had fans shocked when they saw him laying in the hospital with extremely red eyes.

What happened to Markiplier?

Markiplier has returned to uploading videos after spending some time working on his first feature film, Iron Lung. But his most recent upload was not what fans expected, especially on his birthday.

It all started when Markiplier posted to Twitter on June 28 without much explanation. He wrote: “You’ll never guess what I got for my birthday.” The two photos in the tweet included one of him laying in a hospital bed and another with bloodshot eyes.

The tweet left fans extremely concerned for the YouTuber, but they were only left to speculate. That is until Markiplier decided to explain what happened in a video uploaded to his channel.

He started by reassuring fans that he’s alive. Then he explained how his eyes became so red.

“I’m better already,” Markiplier said. “I’m fine. Turns out a lot can happen when you’re going on the record for most blood in a horror movie. It wasn’t pink eye, I didn’t get eye surgery… Turns out sometimes if you go too deep into the blood, this will happen. And you gotta go to doctor to make sure your eyes aren’t melting into your face.”

So according to Markiplier, his eyes became agitated in some way due to the amount of blood he was dealing with. In Iron Lung, a movie based on a horror game Markiplier played in 2022, revolves around the concept of diving into a moon that’s full of blood.

This is a major relief for fans since Markiplier has been dealing with some health issues quite recently. He was in the hospital for a variety of intestinal complications and “intense abdominal pain.” Luckily this time, his hospital visit wasn’t as serious, although it does leave fans more curious about Iron Lung.
