The LGD mid laner in the LPL has been accused of match-fixing, resulting in his suspension and an internal investigation.

LGD mid laner Chen “Jay” Bo has been suspended following allegations of match-fixing and breaking competitive integrity. The revelation stemmed from seemingly incriminating text messages. LGD has suspended Jay and is conducting an internal investigation to determine the veracity of the alleged match-fixing.

LGD has had a generally poor 2022, finishing in a dreadful 16th place, farther down in the rankings than most leagues have enough teams for. Text messages have now emerged that appear to show Jay negotiating with an unknown party about potential picks as well as potentially throw a fight in an upcoming game, seemingly to make money off of specific bets placed on the happenings in the game.

This is a serious allegation, with the LPL being the largest and most resource-rich professional league in the League of Legends world. With 17 pro teams compared to most major regions’ 10, the sheer size of the LPL invites more opportunities for dishonesty and breaches of competitive integrity. Teams at the very bottom, where LGD landed after posting a 3-13 record at the end of the spring split, are at risk of manipulating low-stakes games for individual gain.

LGD has announced Jay’s suspension and is conducting an internal investigation to learn the full extent of the potential match fixing. The translated texts seem to possibly implicate another member of the LGD roster, with Jay implying he could get help with intentionally losing a fight at rift herald. The truth about the accusations will take time to be revealed, but LGD seems to be taking the situation seriously.

Translations of the leaked messages seem to make clear that the specifics around an attempt to intentionally lose a match were being negotiated, but the veracity of the screenshots remains unclear at this time.
