Warhammer 40,000K: Space Marine 2 is a much-discussed game coming out later this year, having fans of the series play as Titus, an Ultramarines lieutenant from previous games. Here’s what we know about Space Marine 2’s plot and where it fits on the timeline.
Space Marine 2 lets you control Titus and his fellow Space Marines Chairon and Gadriel as they traverse a cooperative multiplayer campaign or single-player mode against AI.
Most of the gameplay includes both ranged combat and hack-and-slash violence. The way you fight enemies will depend on what type of enemy you’re facing.
One of the game modes is called Operations, a cooperative mode, and there are also 6v6 competitive multiplayer modes like Annihilation and Capture and Control. In these modes, you can pick from six different character classes and customize your chosen avatar.

Space Marine 2 is set in the 42nd Millennium during the Era Indomitus, the Age of the Dark Imperium. The Imperium of Man has launched the Indomitus Crusade for the past 10 years after the return of Primarch Roboute Guilliman in hopes of reclaiming lost worlds from enemies. An alien race known as the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan has come out to start the 4th Tyrannic War.
You’ll largely be focused on taking down the Tyranids and the forces of Chaos. They are an insect-like race who aim to consume all biomatter. The Thousand Sons, one of the nine Traitor Astartes Legions, has also been confirmed to be in the game.
The events of Space Marine 2 take place after the first game, so it’s a sequel.
Captain Titus was investigated by the Inquisition and arrested on heresy charges. He was then returned to the Ultramarines Chapter, but this made him a bit suspicious of the Chapter, leaving him demoted to Lieutenant. He decides to undergo Rubicon Primaris, a process that will transform him from a Firstborn Marine into a Primaris Space Marine.
This hasn’t stopped Warhammer fans from continuously discussing the timeline and trailer details for the past few years. But the game is coming out soon and will bring a lot more clarity to the fanbase.
