Riot Games has unveiled a brand new fighter for its upcoming League of Legends fighting game Project L. Kraken Priestess Illaoi will join Ahri, Darius, Ekko, Jinx, and Katarina on the roster.

Project L was initially revealed in 2019 when Riot Games was still in an early stage of development. Since the announcement, the developer has made plenty of progress, unveiling a handful of champions from League of Legends as fighters. All characters belong to different classes, bringing their familiar abilities to a new style of game. The devs revealed another fighter in Illaoi, reigniting the anticipation around Project L.

There are plenty of high-quality fighting games on the market right now, but Riot Games’ Project L has the capacity to quickly grow given how quickly Valorant rose to prominence. The game will bring popular champions that already have a solid fan base in League of Legends to a new genre.

Riot Games adds Illaoi to Project L

After playing a vital role in the lore of Ruined King, the Big Body Juggernaut is making her way to Project L. Illaoi is a beefy, massive champion in League of Legends, and she will make an impact in Project L.

According to associate game director Shaun “UNCONKABLE!!!!” Rivera, Illaoi’s appearance will remain more or less the same. The juggernaut may not be the most agile fighter on the roster, but she will pack a big punch. The large hitboxes and muscles will make her a bruising character, but players may struggle with maneuverability. The fighter will shine the most in mid-range duels.

“Illaoi is a powerful and charismatic spiritual leader who inspires others to be their own unstoppable force. She turns heads and dominates a room with her physical presence and confident, purposeful swagger,” The developer said

The giant hard-hitter is still in testing, and the developer is tinkering with her move set. The primary focus is on the functionality of her tentacles, Illaoi’s god, Nagakabouros. Judging from the concept art, it looks like the plan is to make her a threat at all ranges.

“When figuring out which part was the “dominant” power, we decided that Illaoi would be the source of power and that Nagakabouros would have her back,”

Project L is still in development, and while Illaoi sounds promising so far, the developer will continue to polish her kit. The champion will surely be an exciting addition to the lineup despite not being especially popular in League of Legends. Joining the roster of Project L will likely change that.
