If you play League of Legends or Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia, you’re likely happy to be swapping to the official Riot Games client, here’s how to link your Garena account to Riot Games.

Garena has been plaguing the Southeast Asian League of Legends community for years, engaging in manipulative price gouging and generally misbehaving, according to the community. This was likely because Riot Games had little ability to stop it. Now Southeast Asian players can look forward to official Riot Games support in 2023, here’s how to link your Garena account to the new server.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to link your Garena account to your brand-new Riot Games account.

  • Step 1: Make sure the Garena account you’re migrating is active. This means champions purchased, ranked games played, unlocked or purchased content, and the like. This won’t work with entirely fresh accounts used to hold a specific name or created for smurfing but never used. If you haven’t done anything to the account, you can’t migrate it.
  • Step 2: Make a Riot Games account on the same server as your previous Garena account, you can triple-check that it’s the correct server in the top right of the Riot Client, right next to your name, it will say what server it’s on.
  • Step 3: Go to the League Link website and link your accounts. You should be able to check that the account has been migrated successfully by logging into the Riot Games account you’ve created. Once you get to the “Link Accounts” button, that’s the last step. Click it, and your accounts will have been successfully linked. Enjoy your new Riot Games account!

What will be carried over from your Garena account?

Make sure you’re using a new Riot Games account because the transfer process will mostly overwrite the existing Riot Account’s information with that of the Garena account. Otherwise, everything should transfer. There will be a few days in early January 2023 where purchased champions, skins, and other progress won’t count toward your Riot Games account, so keep an eye out for that.
