How to beat Alexander’s questline, get his shard in Elden Ring

The Shard of Alexander is a powerful talisman that massively raises the strength of skills, here’s how to get it from Iron Fist Alexander in Elden Ring.

Alexander, Warrior Jar is an NPC that appears several times in Elden Ring and was prominently featured in the buildup to the game. Though he didn’t get a questline expansion in the most recent patch, he’s still a popular figure among fans. The Shard of Alexander is the reward for following his storyline all the way through to the end. Or for just killing him in the middle of it.

Alexander seems to get himself stuck a lot and the Tarnished will have to help him out in order to get this unique item. It’s likely to be worth the effort with a lot of different character builds.

How to finish the Alexander questline in Elden Ring

Alexander’s questline can be completed by finding him in several locations across the Elden Ring map. Players will need to either talk to him, help him out of the ground, or summon him for boss fights in each encounter.

The first time you meet Alexander, he’s in northeastern Limgrave on the border with Caelid near the bridge guarded by the giant enemy with the ovoid helmet. Alexander can be heard calling for help. Climb the cliff to the south, and hit him a few times to free him from his predicament.

Alexander can then be found due east of that site in far east Liurnia, past the forest and near the cliffs that descend towards the Minor Erdtree. He will also show up as a helping hand in the Starscourge Radahn boss fight, all you need to do is exhaust his dialogue.

Finally, Alexander can be found stuck yet again next to the Carian Study Hall in Liurnia. Freeing Alexander here takes an Oil Pot item. This can be purchased from the merchant in Siofra River and made from the Melted Mushrooms crafting item found throughout Nokron, Eternal City.

Simply toss the pots at Alexander then attack him a couple of times to free the clumsy warrior jar.

How to get Shard of Alexander

Getting the Shard of Alexander in Elden Ring requires the player to help Alexander reach Crumbling Farum Azula or killing him earlier on.

After freeing him from Nokron, Alexander finds his way to Mount Gelmir where he awaits behind the Magma Wyrm fight in the far southwest. Speak to Alexander at the back of the lava river after besting the boss and head to the Mountaintop of the Giants. Alexander can be used as a cooperator in the Fire Giant boss fight.

The last place to find Alexander is in Crumbling Farum Azula. Here, Alexander awaits on the other side of a crumbled tower that functions as a bridge. If you’ve talked to him and helped him progress to this point, he’ll reward you with the talisman.

If you haven’t, you’ll need to kill this jolly warrior jar in a duel to the death in order claim it. Either way you’ll end up with the Shard of Alexander.
