Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

While racing in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, your number one focus is probably trying to drift into first place. But you should also be grabbing the coins on the track. Here’s how coins work in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and how many you need to unlock everything.

Coins are an important part of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. They will boost your speed during a race and give you extra speed boosts if you keep collecting them on the track. The coins you collect will also have benefits after the race is over, unlocking racers, karts, and other parts as you accumulate more.

How coins work in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

When you finish a race in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the amount of coins you get during that race will be automatically added to your total amount. Every time you reach a certain amount of coins, you will unlock a new kart or kart part. You won’t get to pick the things you unlock and will instead be notified of the new things you unlock after the race is complete.

How to unlock everything in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

A vehicle part will be randomly unlocked every 30 coins you get. Once you reach 450 coins total, you will then start unlocking a vehicle or part at every 50 coins. Then when you reach 1500 total coins, you will get a new unlockable every 100 coins. The last non-gold vehicle part will be unlocked upon reaching 3100 coins.

You will need 5000 coins to get the Gold Glider kart part. This is the last piece that’s unlockable with coins.

Is the Gold Glider good in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

The Gold Glider is honestly not all too special in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. If you’re looking for the most optimal kart combo, the Gold Glider is not on any list. It has similar stats to the Super Glider, Wario Wing, Waddle Wing, Plane Glider, and Paper Glider. The Gold Kart is also a bit underwhelming in the current meta — you won’t find anyone using it in competitive races. These items are more for completionists that want every unlockable part in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
