Helldivers 2 gamers reverse PSN requirement

Helldivers 2 player count

Helldivers 2 players fought back against the PSN account requirement and have taken victory.

Helldivers 2 is a survival game focused on co-op and players took that concept to the extreme very recently. When developers announced that gamers would be required to make a PlayStation Network account that’s linked to their Steam, the community fought back until Arrowhead admitted defeat, reversing the decision.

Helldivers 2 players bomb Steam reviews

After turning to X to make their anger heard, Helldivers 2 players claimed a boycott was coming. Many stated that they wouldn’t play the game anymore if they had to make a PlayStation Network account. Developers replied that it was unfortunately needed due to some crossplay bugs.

In response to the decision, Helldivers 2’s Steam page was bombarded with negative reviews. The player count also went down, especially as many gamers requested refunds and countries lost access to the game over the PSN update.

Helldivers 2 community managers responded to the backlash by encouraging more reviews, hoping Sony would take action.

Helldivers 2 PSN requirement reversed

The unpopular policy did so much damage to the game’s reputation that the PSN requirement was eventually removed.

“Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward,” PlayStation wrote on its official account.

Arrowhead’s CEO Johan Pilestedt responded to the situation, stating that his team was part of the decision to disable account linking at launch but had been looking for solutions ever since.

In response to the reversed decision, players celebrated the W by stating the power consumers have. Others, however, begged fellow gamers to stop harassing Arrowhead and its developers.

Only time will tell if Helldivers 2 will return to its former glory.
