Greninja is the next seven-star Tera Raid Battle
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet announced the next seven-star Tera Raid Battle featuring Greninja. The event will run through two different weekends, where players will have the opportunity to catch Greninja.
Seven-star Tera Raid Battles are the toughest battles in the game, requiring high-level Pokemon with specific moves. These limited-time events run for three days at a time, two times, and feature Pokemon that is unattainable any other way.
The first seven-star Tera Raid Battle featured Charizard with the Mightiest Mark. Charizard is not registered in the Paldea Pokedex, meaning that players cannot find it or its pre-evolutions in the wild. During this event, players had the opportunity to catch one Charizard per saved game, and it will be the same with Greninja.
Greninja is a dual Water and Dark type from the Kalos region. Its the second evolution of Froakie, the Water type starter in Pokemon X and Y. Greninja is one of the few starters with an alternative form, Ash-Greninja. This transformation is possible through the Battle Bond Ability. The transformation was first featured in the Pokemon anime and then integrated into the games with the seventh generation.
In previous games, Greninja has become available through trades or specific events. Greninja is not available in any of the eighth-generation games, which includes Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it is will only be available through the seven-star Tera Raid Battle.
Players can only catch one Greninja per saved game. Players can participate in multiple seven-star raids after catching Greninja, but won’t get the opportunity to catch it again, just the regular raid rewards.
When does Greninja Tera Raid Battle start?
The seven-star Tera Raid Battles are limited-time events. The Greninja Tera Raid Battle will run from January 27 through January 29. The second run starts on February 10 and goes through February 12. After those dates, Greninja won’t be available again.
How to defeat Greninja in Tera Raid Battle
In the seven-star Tera Raid Battle, Greninja will have a Poison Tera type. A Tera type is a power boost that gives extra power to a Pokemon and gives it an additional type.
For example, Charizard had a Dragon Tera type, meaning that Fairy and Water Pokemon were strong against it, specifically Azumarill that has both types.
Seven-star Greninja is Water, Dark, and Poison type, making it a complex opponent.
Water is weak against Grass and Dragon. Dark is weak against Fighting and Fairy. Poison is weak against Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Steel. Here is where the challenge starts, Water is strong against Rock and Ground, while Dark can take Ghost Pokemon. Poison is strong against Grass and Fairy. That leaves only Dragon and Fighting as the types that are not affected by one of Greninja’s three types.
Only two Pokemon are Dragon and Fighting, Hakamo-o and Komm-o, but those Pokemon are not available in Scarlet and Violet. Finding the perfect opponent for Greninja requires some strategy and preparation, but the reward will be worth the effort.
