Gambit Esports wins when NiP pro player abandons in EPIC League

Professional Dota 2 players are just like everyone else. Not in terms of how well they play, as obviously they’re significantly better at Dota 2 than an overwhelming majority of other players, but in that they make the same silly mistakes that pub players do.

Take the EPIC League game between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Gambit Esports. The two teams are operating at a much higher level than anything the average player has ever experienced, but it still ended in a familiar fashion when Albert “eine” Garaev accidentally abandoned the game.

51 minutes into the deciding game in the best-of-three series, Gambit Esports called for a technical pause after a team fight. Three players disconnect, but only two came back as Andrey “meLes” Romanov stated in all chat that eine had accidentally abandoned the game while trying to reconnect. 

After a bit of confusion, Gambit requested to let the game continue so they could have someone micro him. Both Ninjas in Pyjamas and the EPIC League administrators approved of this, which allowed the game to continue on as a four-versus-five contest.

Gambit Esports was in a very favorable position at that point, with a 12,000 net worth lead and a lane of barracks down. That isn’t an insurmountable lead, but Gambit’s Anton “yy” Shkredov moved to end the game quickly by purchasing a Divine Rapier for his Morphling. The move paid off, allowing Gambit to take the game and set up a 2-1 series victory.

Who are Ninjas in Pyjamas?

Ninjas in Pyjamas’ Dota 2 roster is made up of the following players:

1. Charlie “CharlieDota” Arat
2. Ondřej “Supream^” Štarha
3. Jonáš “SabeRLight-” Volek
4. Adrian “Era” Kryeziu

Though he is not officially contracted by the organization, Mikhail “Misha” Agatov has been serving as a long-term stand-in for the team at the hard support position.

What happened to Ninjas in Pyjamas?

Ninjas in Pyjamas has bounced in and out of relevance in pro Dota 2 throughout its entire existence. It hit a high point in early 2020 by finding traction in the highly competitive European Dota 2 scene, but the team collapsed after former captain Peter “ppd” Dager retired. A new roster was signed, but it has since struggled to find success.
