Fortnite Champion Series changes competitive play in Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Season 1 doesn’t only bring changes to Fortnite’s map. Epic Games also has big changes in store for the competitive side of the game.

The developers have announced an update to the Fortnite Champion Series earlier today after a successful handful of online tournaments last season. According to the press release, Arena will be mirroring the Fortnite Champion Series by hosting Squads. Solo Arena is also available. Players must climb to Champion League status to unlock the Fortnite Champion Series tournaments. 

Fortnite Champion Series updates in Chapter 2

 

The Fortnite Champion Series will return next month. Starting November 1, the FCS will begin with a three-round Squads event. This will take place each week for four weeks. 

Each week, the top teams from each region will advance to the Chapter 2 Season 1 Finals. Squads can achieve this by getting top placements to climb up the leaderboard. The top performers on the Series Leaderboard will also advance to the Finals. 

The Finals will be held online for reach region starting on December 6. 

While all of this is similar to last season, there are going to be some differences this time around. For Chapter 2 Season 1, more qualification spots will be available for individual weekly qualifiers, therefore taking some slots away from the teams side. 

“Our goals here are to 1) give players more opportunities to play with different squads without totally harming their chances of qualification and 2) retain the value of consistent competitive play over the course of the season for the squads who wish to remain together. Additionally, trades will not be allowed between any qualified teams,” the announcement reads. 

Another big change in Chapter 2’s Fortnite Champion Series is the increased prize pool. This time around there will be $5 million in total prizes across all of the associated competitions. This includes the weekly Cash Cups and the console-specific tournaments. 

Leading up to next month’s events, Fortnite competitors can look forward to the FNCS Warmup. This is a practice tournament with no cash prizes, but it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the game’s new map and weapon selection in a competitive setting. 

“Hop in with your squad to try new rotations, sharpen your skills, and prepare for this Season’s competitive kick off!” the announcement exclaims.
