The games in the Persona series are considered among the best in history. These games combine immersive storytelling with dynamic gameplay, making them hard to put down even years after their releases. In 2023, Atlus wants to reach a broader audience with the re-release of Persona 3 Portable.

Atlus is no stranger to releasing enhanced versions of the Persona titles, so it was a matter of time before Persona 3 Portable got its turn.

One of the key differences between the 2023 version and the original, is that Persona 3 Portable will now be available on PC, PS4, XBOX, and Nintendo Switch. The expansion of Persona games into platforms outside of PlayStation started with Persona 5 Royal.

Original Persona 3 Portable

Is Persona 3 Portable the same as Persona 3?

Originally, Persona 3 Portable was a trimmed version of Persona 3. The game didn’t include the cut scenes and the exploration in the overworld was limited. However, in comparison with Persona 3 FES, the game had better gameplay which led fans to pick Portable as the best option out of the two.

Some of the features included in Portable and not in FES were the ability to pick the difficulty level, control party members, and play as a female character. All of these features are likely to appear in the upcoming Persona 3 Portable.

Other improvements are to be expected. If Persona 3 and its versions had limitations it was due to the technology available at the moment. A PlayStation Portable did not have the same capacity that a Nintendo Switch has.

The cut scenes and other visual aspects of the game are likely to get significant improvement. The best example is Persona 5 Royal, the game added more to the stories and characters, making it feel like a new game.

Fans of the original game can expect the title they know and love but just better.
