Epic Games is reportedly considering a Fortnite movie.
After Epic Games’ legal battles with Apple and Google, Epic Games has decided to diversify its product offering outside of video games alone, according to The Information. A source told the site that a film is being discussed. This coincides with Epic Games hiring people from Lucasfilm who previously worked on Disney’s Star Wars films, including its former vice president Jason McGatlin who is now Epic’s president of special projects.
So is the special project a movie?
Epic Games has not offered up any information on the possible project just yet but it wouldn’t be much of a stretch since multiple accomplished Lucasfilm employees are now on board. Though Fortnite is primarily known for being a game with silly dances, there hvae been loads of cinematic moments over the years driven by a long-running story about parallel universes. Epic Games has also collaborated with a lot of television shows and movies, meaning there are an abundance of possible cameos.
For now, it’s still unclear what the Fortnite movie would be like or when it would be released. While video game movies have a very bad wrap, this one could pan out well with the right direction and script.

Epic implemented a direct-pay system in Fortnite in 2020, meaning players purchasing V-bucks directly funded Epic.
This bypassed the Apple App Store, not giving Apple a cut of the profits. In response, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store and took a number of other aggressive measures to attack Epic Games.
Epic Games fired back with a lawsuit against Apple but neither company really came out of court better off. The federal judge mostly sided with Apple by approving its decision to blacklist Epic Games but also allowed Epic Games to bypass the App Store. Epic Games then filed a similar suit against Google when Fortnite was removed from the Google Play Store, which further impacted the game’s ability to go mobile.
With mobile gaming off the table for now, Epic Games is most likely looking at different ways to cash in on Fortnite’s success. The popularity of video game movies like Free Guy and Ready Player One proves that a Fortnite movie could be a smart move.
