A new trailer for DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 has dropped and it shows that things are going very poorly for Davion, Mirana, and their friends.

Netflix revealed the next look at the Dota 2 animated series’ second season, and it seems that almost every plot thread in the first season has taken a turn for the worse after the finale. Each of the main characters are touched upon and it gives some broader context regarding what’s in store for Lina, who was revealed in the trailer that dropped during The International 2021.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood’s first season ended with Terrorblade defeating the moon goddess Selemene with the help of Invoker. This resulted in Luna and the Darkmoon forces losing their powers and being defeated in battle by the forest-dwelling elves that they had been leading a genocidal campaign against, forcing Mirana to take command of them. Meanwhile, Davion was captured by his fellow Dragon Knights, who are seeking to separate Slyrak from him.

What happened to Davion and Mirana?

It seems as though some time will pass between DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Books 1 and 2, as each of these plots have seemingly advanced forward quite a bit.

According to Davion, Terrorblade now controls the power of every Eldwurm except Slyrak, which is a big step forward from the one Eldwrum Terrorblade controls in the first season. This has Terrorblade pursuing Davion to the Dragon Knight fortress of Dragon Hold, with an entire army of creatures to send at its walls.

After defeating Luna, Fymryn pursued the Dragon Knights that captured Davion and seems to still be on their tail.

Following her own defeat at the hands of Terrorblade, Selemene no longer has any power outside of “a spark of divinity.” Mirana is looking to remedy that, but this is putting her at odds with Lina. Lina’s motivations are unclear, but this positions her to be a major player in the story as she seems ready to take on both Mirana and Slyrak, judging from what was shown in the first trailer.

When is DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 coming out?

According to Wykrhm Reddy, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 will launch in its entirety on January 6, 2022.

This is good news for Dota 2 fans as the new season is coming together more quickly than was expected. The first season took years to be released and Book 2 wasn’t actually confirmed until April 2021. Having the next chapter in the series drop in its entirety less than a year after it was announced is a welcome surprise, and having its official release date be less than a month away is an even more welcome surprise for Dota 2 fans.

Unlike League of Legends’ Arcane, which premiered on Netflix in three-episode blocks with a week between each one, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood Book 2 will have the standard Netflix release approach that allows for binge watching from the beginning of a show’s run all the way to completion.
